Phoenix TV organises a goodwill visit to tsunami-affected areas
 

Hong Kong April 17, 2005 ¨C A goodwill visit group led by Mr. Liu Changle, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Satellite Television (Phoenix TV), departed from Hong Kong for Indonesia today. The delegation, scheduled to visit tsunami-affected areas during the four-day trip on April 17 ¨C 20, comprises internationally acclaimed actor Mr. Jackie Chan, Hong Kong artiste Mr. Eric Tsang, Phoenix presenter Miss Sally Wu, Phoenix commentator Anthony Yuen, Miss World 2004 Miss Maria Julia Garcia Mantilla (Peru), Miss Chinese Cosmos 2004 Miss Lee Sze Kei (Malaysia) and Mr. Daley Thompson, decathlon gold medallist at the 1984 Olympics.

 

Phoenix TV, the delegation organiser, wishes that the footage of the visit would enable the viewers around the world to know about the latest conditions of the struck-areas. It is also hoped to bring in more support and financial aids from the Chinese communities.

 

The visit is the largest ever in scale organised by the Chinese communities since the December 26 tsunami last year.  

 

The delegation will visit Aceh and meet with children orphaned by the tsunami.  They will also visit the most hit areas in the local Chinese community in Medan. 

 

On the agenda, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and the governor of Aceh will meet with the delegation, which has plans to stage a fundraising dinner and a media conference in Jakarta.

 

The delegation is made up of some 30 representatives. Other members include Mr. Wang Ji Yan, Head of Phoenix Chinese channel; Mrs. Julia Morley, founder of Miss World Contest; and others.
